Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Falls In Road Game at Mary Baldwin
Staunton, Va. (Jan. 5, 2019) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but home standing Mary Baldwin University quickly erased the deficit and ran away with an 85-57 USA South win on Saturday afternoon.
Pfeiffer got baskets from senior Sydni Bickford (Concord, N.C.), Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) and A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) in the early run, but Mary Baldwin put together a 22-7 run over the rest of the quarter, taking the 22-14 lead.
In the second quarter, MBU built their lead to 35-21 at the 2:55 mark and took the 41-28 lead into halftime.
Mary Baldwin steadily increased their lead throughout the third and fourth quarters, with the Falcons never getting the lead to within 22 points, as MBU kept pouring it on, posting the 85-57 win.
Bentley lead all Falcon scorers with nine points while Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) adding eight. McClain finished with seven points while Johnaisha Watson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Aaliyah May (Birmingham, Ala.) each tallied six points.
The loss drops the Falcons to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in league play while Mary Baldwin improves to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in the USA South.
Pfeiffer will return to USA South play on Wednesday, Jan. 9 with a 6:00 p.m. road game at William Peace.
