Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Uses Big Fourth Quarter to Down Meredith, 56-44

Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 12, 2019) –
The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team outscored visiting Meredith 20-7 in the fourth quarter and took a 56-44 USA South win at Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Down 37-36 at the start of the final stanza, Pfeiffer went on a 8-0 run to start the quarter to take the 44-37 lead and never trailed again.  The Falcons were able to build their largest lead of the game at 12 points (52-40) with 2:44 left following two free throws from A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.).

Meredith would draw to 52-43, but that was as close as the Angels would come, as Pfeiffer took the 56-44 win.

As a team, the Falcons went 21-of-59 from the field (35.6%) and held Meredith to 26.9% shooting (14-of-52).  Pfeiffer forced 18 turnovers and turned those miscues into 16 points.

McClain led Pfeiffer, finishing with 13 points while teammate Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.  Teammates Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.), Sydni Bickford (Concord, N.C.) and Regan Allen (Olin, N.C.) also had four rebounds each.

Meredith's Kimberly Schuh had a game-high 16 points and managed nine rebounds while Madison Gladwell had 13 points in the loss.

The loss drops Meredith to 2-15 and 2-6 in USA South play while Pfeiffer improves to 6-4 and 3-3 in league action.

Pfeiffer will next play on Monday, Jan. 14 against Averett.  Tipoff time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Merner Gym.
