Mary Baldwin Deals Pfeiffer Women a 71-63 Defeat

Visiting Mary Baldwin University hit 11-three pointers on the afternoon and held Pfeiffer University to 38.7% shooting in a 71-63 win in Merner Gym on Saturday afternoon.

In a closely contested game, the Falcons and Squirrels were deadlocked at 47-47 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, but Pfeiffer quickly grabbed the 51-47 lead thanks to baskets from Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) and Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.).  MBU would fight back, taking the 54-51 lead after a Leah Calhoun basket with 7:26 left.

Pfeiffer went cold, as MBU built a 10-point advantage (64-54) over the next three minutes.  Pfeiffer would not be able to trim the deficit any closer than seven the rest of the way, as MBU took the 71-63 win.

Bentley led all Pfeiffer scorers, contributing 18 points and seven rebounds on the day.  Senior Sydni Bickford (Concord, N.C.) hit three from long range and finished with 15 points while A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) had 13 points in the loss.

MBU's Brooke Anders scored a game-high 21 points by hitting seven three-pointers.  Calhoun finished with 14 points while teammate Nicole Blackburn returned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

With the loss, Pfeiffer falls to 6-7 on the season and 3-6 in league play.  The win for Mary Baldwin ups their record to 13-7 and 7-4 in USA South.
