Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Gets Past Salem, 66-60

The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team got 17 points from senior Sydni Bickford and 16 from sophomore Mya Johnson to down visiting Salem College 66-60 in a USA South game at Merner Gym on Sunday afternoon.

Bickford, a guard from Concord, N.C., hit four three-pointers on the afternoon and was 6-of-11 from the field.  Johnson also managed a 6-of-11 outing from the field while nailing one from distance in the win.  She was also 3-of-4 from the free throw line.

The Falcons jumped out to an 18-9 lead on the Spirits in the first quarter, but Salem responded in the second, battling back to tie the game at 30-30 at halftime.

Pfeiffer would regain the four point (47-43) at the conclusion of the third quarter and would build the lead to as many as 12 points (57-45) at the 6:22 mark of the fourth quarter.  Salem would close the gap to 63-58 with 1:03 left, but that would be the closest that they would get, as the Falcons held on for the 66-60 win.

Salem had two players score 17 points in Tamara Blanton and Makalla Burnette.  Chaneice Moss finished with 11 for the Spirits, who fell to 1-17 and 1-9 with the loss.

With the win, Pfeiffer improves to 7-7 on the season and 4-6 in league play.
