SNOW HILL, N.C. – Pfeiffer University's Meghan Holbrooks (Winston Salem, N.C. / Ledford HS) concluded her junior season with a share of the Conference Carolinas Championships tournament at the Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, North Carolina. Holbrooks scored a 74-70 - 144 (E) for the event, finishing as the only golfer to score under par in the second round.
Three playoff holes were unable to crown an outright winner, as Holbrooks finished in a two-way tie for 1st place with King University's Nicola Robertson (72-72 - 144). Rain made the fourth sudden death hole unplayable. Both were four strokes ahead of the next-closest individual in Belmont Abbey's Kaitlyn Gribbon, who led the tournament with a 1-under 71 following Sunday's action. Fifty-three players in all participated.
Holbrooks, who was named first team All-Conference Carolinas and team MVP over the weekend, had a tremendous 2016-17 campaign, turning in five top-10 performances out of eight events played. She finished the same tournament in 3rd place as a freshman in 2015 and 5th as a sophomore last season; and it's the second time in her career she's finished an event atop in the individual leaderboard.
This marks the second straight year a Pfeiffer golfer has won the Conference Carolinas Championships as an individual after Amanda Floberg took home the hardware last spring.
Sophomore Cristina del Diego (Madrid, Spain / Colegio Arturo Soria) moved up five spots to finish tied for 37th after posting a 24-over 86-82 - 168 for the tournament. Senior Allyson Heinz's (Salemburg, NC / Lakewood HS) card read 93-88 - 181 (+37), which puts her in 49th overall.
Pfeiffer's players all competed as individuals; the Falcons did not record a team score.
Originally scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament, the Conference Carolinas Championships was cut short by 18 holes due to hostile weather implications on Monday.
