RALEIGH, N.C. -- In their first game against a USA South opponent, the Pfeiffer women's soccer team (1-2) lost to Meredith (3-0) by a final score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. After erupting for 11 goals in its season opener, the Falcons were blanked for the second straight match.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt was superb once again as she made eight saves on the afternoon. Over her last two matches, Hyatt has recorded 19 saves including a handful of spectacular ones.

Unfortunately, the Avenging Angels beat Hyatt in the 52nd minute when Jessica Wallace found Erin Cooke for the match's only goal.

Despite playing without two starters due to injury, the Falcons battled all day. Meredith Manson had the best chance to even the score but her shot went wide in the 87th minute. In the final seconds, Gabby Bosak sent a shot from 30 yards out that was corralled by the keeper as Pfeiffer's comeback attempt fell short.

For the match, Meredith held a 13-7 advantage in shots and put 10 on frame. Pfeiffer recorded two shots on goal that were both stopped by Jaisa Loch. Meredith took two corners compared to one for Pfeiffer.

Maddie Capel (3) and Cayci Eaton (2) combined for five of the seven shots on the day. Wallace was credited with six shots and four shots on goal for Meredith.

This was the first all-time meeting between the two programs with many more matchups to come in the future.

Pfeiffer returns to action tomorrow afternoon as they battle Johns Hopkins at 3:30 p.m. in Raleigh.
