Pfeiffer Women's Soccer Drops Averett, 3-0

Misenheimer, N.C. (Oct.9, 2018) –
The Pfeiffer University women's soccer team kept their hot streak alive and scored two first-half goals en route to a 3-0 USA South win over visiting Averett at Lefko Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Falcons jumped ahead 1-0 in the 31st minute when Maddie Capel notched her team-leading seventh goal of the season when she took a pass from Meredith Manson and fired it past the Averett goalkeeper from eight yards out.

Nine minutes later, Pfeiffer went up 2-0 when Allison Gonzalez lifted a long cross over the Cougar defenders that was buried by Dayanna Riera, her second goal of the season.

After leading 2-0 at halftime, Cayci Eaton found the back of the net less than two minutes into the second half to make it 3-0. The goal marked Eaton's fifth of the season.

The Falcons dominated the Cougars, blasting 26 shots on the night and holding the opposition to just five attempts.

Pfeiffer goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt returned three saves to improve the Falcons to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in league play.  The win also puts the Falcons at a perfect 5-0 in home matches on the season.

Pfeiffer will take a few days off before hosting Meredith on Saturday, Oct. 13.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
