Women's Soccer Wins 2-0 Over Washington & Jefferson in ECAC First Round

Pfeiffer Women's Soccer Beats Washington & Jefferson in ECAC First Round

The Pfeiffer University women's soccer team scored twice in a three-minute span to take a 2-0 win over Washington & Jefferson College in the first round of the ECAC Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons' first score came in the 24th minute when Kelsy Esquivel (Charlotte, N.C.) knocked in a shot after Madison Lamb (Orlando, Fla.) rattled the goal by hitting the crossbar.

Mackenzie Pruitt (Havelock, N.C.) made it 2-0 less than three minutes later when she deposited a shot past the WJU goalkeeper after receiving a lobbed pass from Allison Gonzalez (Charlotte, N.C.).

In the second half, both teams managed four shots each as Pfeiffer advanced to the quarterfinals and improved to 13-2 on the year with their eighth consecutive win.

Pfeiffer junior goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt (St. Cloud, Fla.) made six saves on the afternoon to improve to 13-2 on the season.

The Falcons will take on host McDaniel on Sunday at Noon in the ECAC quarterfinals. McDaniel advanced by taking down Brevard by a 4-0 score, also on Saturday.
