COLUMBIA, GA – The Pfeiffer swimming team wrapped up its 2017-18 campaign at the SunCoast Swim Conference meet at the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club in Columbia, GA. The Falcons had a strong fourth-place finish and complete a successful first year back as a program.
The Falcons opened day one with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Mireia van Riet, Tiffany Bartholomew, Allison Lindsey and Alevtyna Kalashnik recorded a time of 1:52.67.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Lindsey took home a second place finish by touching in 5:16.93, almost a full second better than her prelim time.
Other top 8 finishers included, Tiffany Bartholomew with a fifth place performance in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.01. The 800 Free Relay of Lindsey, Miller, Kalashnik, van Riet took 6th place with a time of 8:28.38
Pfeiffer finished the day with 149 team points, good for fourth place.
The meet continues with prelims tomorrow at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
For the second straight day, the Falcons opened up the day with a strong relay performance. The foursome of Bartholomew, Kalashnik, van Riet and Lindsey took third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.11. Lindsey, who swam the anchor leg, was the fastest of the group, completing her portion in 24.27 seconds.
The Falcon team was strong as a unit in the 100-yard butterfly, placing three in the top eight. Lindsey was second with a time of 57.84, followed by a fourth-place finish from van Riet and eighth-place finish by Kalashnik.
Bartholomew tied with Jessilyn Graham of South Georgia St. as they each touched at 1:09.36 in the 100-yard breaststroke, splitting a fourth-place finish.
van Riet grabbed a second-place spot of her own, finishing the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.33 and less than a second behind the winner.
Finally, the Falcons grabbed another fourth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with van Riet, Bartholomew, Lindsey and Kalashnik.
After day two, the Falcons remain in fourth place with a team score of 342.5.
The meet wraps up on Saturday with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
The highlight of the day, and weekend, was Lindsey earning the title in the 200-yard butterfly. The senior posted a time of 2:08.64 to win the event by a second-and-a-half. Lindsey earned the third highest individual points over the course of the meet.
van Riet grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke and Kalashnik placed eigth in the 100-yard freestyle. The meet concluded with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay of Bartholomew, Kalashnik, van Riet and Lindsey.
The team placed fourth out of eight teams at the meet with 464.50 points and earned 8 all-conference finishes (top three) throughout the meet.
