Title: Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

Kent Whitener enters his third year as the Falcon Tennis Head Coach for men’s and women’s teams.

In Whitener's second season, it was highlighted by Olivia Nelms winning the Women's Player of the Year in Conference Carolinas to go along with Mylene Petitpas earning second team honors. On the men's side, Whitener's coaching helped Axel Woerner earn second team recognition. In total Whitener's teams put seven athletes on the Academic All-Conference team.

Whitener’s 2015-16 season was highlighted by the men’s tennis team reaching the Conference Carolinas tournament finals as he received the Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year. In 2015, Whitener’s men’s team finished with a record of 14-7 regular season record and a perfect 9-0 record in Conference Carolinas.

On the women's side, Kent led the Falcons to a conference semi finals berth as the team finished with a record of 13-6 and 8-2 in the conference

In all, the Falcons totaled nine All-Conference awards while Nils Hoffacker and Olivia Nelms placed on the first place teams and seven Falcons made the All-Conference academic teams as they maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

A native of Newton, N.C., Whitener is a certified PTR Professional, USTA Rated 5.0. Whitener was ranked in the top-10 in North Carolinas Juniors and top-50 in the Southern Region.

After his playing career at Pfeiffer, Kent worked at the Van Der Meer World Class Academy in Hilton Head, S.C. While there, Whitener worked with several national ranked juniors that went on to compete at the highest Division I levels.

After that stint, he became the Director of Tennis at the Rockbridge Club in Columbia, S.C. from 2009-15 where he continued his success. Whitener led all areas of tennis from large adult and junior tournaments to the highest level of college tennis.
