Misenheimer, NC---Pfeiffer lost two close games to Carson-Newman Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action. Pfeiffer droppped the first game 5-2 and the second by a score of 2-1. Pfeiffer is now 9-6 on the season. In game one the Eagles jumped to an early lead with two runs in the second. A two-run home run in the third gave Carson-Newman a 4-0 lead. Jodie Groce led off the bottom of the third with a single and later scored on a two-out RBI single by Shawn Coke. Pfeiffer cut the Eagle lead to 4-2 in the fourth when Eric Shoemaker scored on a Tyler Smith RBI groundout. The Eagles scored once more in the fifth t make the final 5-2. Falcon starer Adam Sedberry picked up the loss giving up five runs in four innings of work.  In game two The Eagles scored in the first on a double, fielder's choice and a single to take a 1-0 lead. A Rogers home run gave Carson-Newman a 2-0 lead in the sixth. The Falcons had four hits off the Eagles starter through the first six innings. In the seventh Tyler Smith blasted a solo home run to cut the defecit to 2-1 but Pfeiffer could not push the tieing run across the plate and lost 2-1. Falcon Chris Miller pitched a complete game but picked up the loss. He struck out twelve while only giving up the two runs in seven innings.  Pfeiffer will next host conference rival Limestone in a weekend series. There wil be a double-header Saturday starting at 12:00 pm with a single game Sunday at 1:00 pm. |
