| Misenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer baseball team split a double-header with conference rival Limestone Saturday afternoon. The Saints took game one 5-3 but the Falcons came back to win game two 9-3. Pfeiffer is now 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Limestone is 9-6 and 3-2. Limestone scored first in game one. With help from a Falcon error the Saints scored twice in the third. Eric Shoemaker led off he Falcon fourth with a single and then stole second. Hayes Hinson stepped up and drove him in with a single to cut the Saint lead to 2-1. Limestone scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to take a 4-1 advantage. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh Hinson reached on a Saint error. It was followed by two straight walks to load the bases. Josh Strickland then ripped a double to plate two Falcons and make the score 4-3. The Saints scored one in the ninth and the Falcons could not make a comeback and fell 5-3. Jonathan McDaniel(2-1) took the loss for the Falcons. McDaniel went eight innings giving up four earned runs and striking out five.  The Falcons came out determined to win game two. They exploded for four runs in the first on an error, two singles, a double and an RBI ground-out. Limestone got one run in the the second but Hayes Hinson put the game out of reach with a three-run home run in the third to build the Falcon lead to 7-1. Two singles, a double and two walks led to two more Falcon runs in the fourth and made the score 9-2. Ben Beard(2-1) pitched a complete game to pick up the win for Pfeiffer. The two teams will play a single game Sunday at 1:00 pm. |
