Game 1Â Â Game 2
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - It was a tale of two different games for the Pfeiffer baseball team (14-11, 6-4 CC) as they dominated game one but were overwhelmed in game two against Limestone (5-18, 1-10) on Sunday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field. The Falcons took a 15-6 decision in game one but dropped the second game 13-2.
In the opener, junior Ethan Greene improved to 16-7 on his career and 5-2 this season by tossing six innings and allowing just two earned runs. All but one member of the Falcons starting lineup recorded a hit and each of the nine starters crossed the plate in the lopsided victory. Anthony Allende reached base in each of his five plate appearances and scored three runs, while Izzy Perez and Tanner Mathis each finished with four RBI's.
Pfeiffer wasted little time and jumped ahead in the bottom of the first. With Allende on first, Perez crushed his fifth homerun of the season and 11th of his career. In the bottom of the second, Pfeiffer also pushed across two runs on RBI hits by Jordan Eckard and Cody McKenzie. The Saints cut the lead to 4-3 but the Falcons responded in the fifth. Perez knocked an RBI double and then came home to score on Mathis' big fly to put Pfeiffer up 7-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Pfeiffer exploded for six runs on three hits and two errors as the Saints struggled on the mound and in the field.
Pfeiffer pushed the lead to 15-2 with two more runs in the seventh. The Saints pushed three across in their final at bat to make the score a little more respectable.
For the game, Pfeiffer pounded out 14 hits and drew five walks. Dalton Lindley finished with two doubles. Limestone's Mark Burnside fell to 0-3 on the year as he allowed four runs and five hits in two innings of work.
Behind Greene, both Craig Jacobelli and Dylan Norris tossed perfect innings of relief.
Limestone erupted with three different four run innings en route to the 13-2 victory. Limestone took the quick lead with four in the top of the first and never looked back. The Saints had 15 hits, three home runs and held the Falcons to just two hits. The bright spot for the Falcons was a two run homer from Cole McGraw in the bottom of the third. Jameson McGrane tossed a complete game to improve to 1-5 on the year and struck out nine batters in his seven innings as the Saints snapped a 14 game losing streak.
The two teams will play the rubber match of the three game series on tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
