MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer baseball team(10-8, 3-2 CC) dropped a pair of Conference Carolinas games to No. 12 Mount Olive(13-2, 5-0 CC)Â on Monday by scores of 16-6 and 12-6.
Zach Scudder had a great day at the plate, going 4-for-8 with a double and a three-run home run.
In game one, Mount Olive jumped all over the Falcons scoring 11 runs in the first two innings. The Trojans scored at least one run in every inning. Pfeiffer pushed their first run across in the sixth inning when
Dylan Goodman singled down the right field line scoring
Tanner Mathis from third and Scudder from second base. Â In the Falcons final inning they were able to put a little pressure on Mount Olive scoring four runs on two hits however, the deficit was too great.
Mount Olive's starting pitcher Kodi Whitley pitched six innings giving up only five hits and two earned runs while striking out nine to earn the win.
Game two started almost the same way game one did as the Trojans put up 11 runs in the first three innings, which included a three-run home run by Jason Morozowski (8), his second homer of the day. Pfeiffer got their first run of the game in the fourth inning on a solo home run by
Izzy Perez (4). In the bottom of the fourth, the Falcons scored four more runs highlighted by a 3-run no doubt home run by Scudder to left center field.
Jordan Eckard hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the six pulling Pfeiffer within 12-6.Â
Pfeiffer held Mount Olive scoreless for the final four innings, thanks in large part to the relief pitching of
Drew Wilson. Wilson threw 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball only allowing three hits and striking out two batters.
The Falcons return home on Friday, March 6 for the beginning of a three game series with King. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
