MISENHEIMER, NC- On senior day the Pfeiffer baseball team (24-17, 15-8 CC) split with conference rival Belmont Abbey (20-19, 13-10 CC) on Saturday afternoon. In the first game
Cole McGraw drove in three runs in an 8-4 victory. In game two the Falcons could not overcome a five run first inning deficit by the Crusaders in a 10-3 loss.
Pfeiffer started out the bottom of the first inning with singles by
John Elwood and
Cody McKenzie. Elwood later scored on an
Anthony Allende sacrifice fly. McGraw drove in McKenzie with a single down the left field line to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. In the seventh inning, Pfeiffer started with three consecutive singles and finished the inning scoring two runs, highlighted by another RBI single by McGraw. The Falcons added three more insurance runs in the eighth inning.
Ethan Greene picked up his seventh win of the season pitching six innings, striking out six batters and only giving up one earned run. Zach Honeycutt pitched two innings, striking out three batters and only giving up three hits.
In game two Belmont Abbey benefitted from two Pfeiffer errors in the first inning and pushed across five runs. The Falcons would cut into the lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring two runs on three hits.
Jordan Eckard drove in McGraw with an RBI single and
Xavier Rodriguez singled in
Zac Chilton who doubled earlier in the inning. The Crusaders scored five more runs in the third inning, including a three-run home run by Lorenzo Wright to take a 10-2 lead.
Chilton and Eckard each recorded two hits in the second game and
Damon Smith was 1-for-1 with a RBI single.
Jesse Park pitched one scoreless inning and recorded a strike out and didn't give up a hit.
Pfeiffer and Belmont Abbey play the series finale on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
