Box Score

Box Score

WILSON, N.C. - The Pfeiffer baseball team (24-19, 14-10 CC) pushed across four runs in the ninth inning, but ultimately fell one run short as Barton (18-25, 12-12) came away with a 10-9 victory on Friday afternoon. Pfeiffer had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the ninth, but the Falcons couldn't come up with a final big hit as Paschal Ammonds recorded the final out and the save for the Bulldogs.

Izzy Perez hit his 12th home run of the season and drove in three runs for Pfeiffer. The senior is now tied for second in the conference in home runs and is third in the league in slugging percentage. The combination of Cole McGraw and Connor Baldy went 6-for-8 with two runs and two RBI's for the Falcons.

Ethan Greene fell to 7-3 on the mound as the righty last 3.1 innings and allowed six earned runs. Craig Jacobelli (2.2 innings) and Dylan Norris (2 innings) each pitched well out of the bullpen to keep the offense within striking distance.

The Falcons drew nine walks on the day, including four in the ninth inning. Pfeiffer entered the final at bat facing a 10-5 deficit. An out started the inning, followed by consecutive walks. Tanner Mathis flew out to right for the second out of the frame. McGraw was hit by a pitch to load the bases, one of five consecutive batters to reach base safely, and Zac Chilton drew a pinch-hit walk to score one. Xavier Rodriguez reached on an error by the first basemen, allowing another run to cross the plate. Baldy's base hit up the middle scored two more and drew Pfeiffer to within one at 10-9. After a walk to Jon Elwood loaded the bases, Cody McKenzie went down swinging to end the rally and the game.

The loss drops Pfeiffer to fifth place in the conference standings but the Falcons are just one game out of third place.

The Falcons can get back on the winning track as they close out the regular season with a double header tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon between these two teams.
