WILSON, NC - The Pfeiffer baseball team (26-19, 16-10 CC) closed out Conference Carolinas play with a sweep at Barton (18-27, 12-14) on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons enter next week's Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed thanks to today's outcomes.
In game one at Nixon field, Keith Little would go the distance and pitch a one-hit gem. The near no-hit showing was the second superb outing for the senior this season. Little's first start of the season saw the lefty throw five no hit innings against Francis Marion before giving way to the bullpen.
Pfeiffer would score first in the second by pushing Izzy Perez home when Connor Baldy was hit by a pitch with bases loaded. Pfeiffer's defense would remain strong throughout the game and the Falcons would add scores in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. The fifth would see the Falcons score two runs off an Anthony Allende homer, his fourth of the year. In the sixth, Dalton Lindley would connect on his seventh long ball of the season. The seventh would start with a Cole McGraw double followed by an Izzy Perez double which would score McGraw. Barton's lone hit would come in the third with a Mitchell Wheeler single. Little would strike out six throughout the game and scatter three walks in the shutout.
In game two, Lindley would start the scoring with a homer in the second, his second of the day. Barton would strike back by adding four in the bottom of the inning. Three of the four runs would score on homer by Spiers Miller to center field. The Falcons would climb right back in the top of the third with three of their own. John Elwood, McGraw and Baldy would each find home on two hits and two errors including a Perez 2-RBI single. Pfeifer would move ahead with two runs in the eighth with RBI's from Xavier Rodriguez and Baldy. Pfeiffer would add two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to take the 8-4 lead. Hunter Jobe earned the win in relief after Tyler Lequire delivered six innings of work.Â
The Falcons return home Tuesday April 21st to face Lander in a non-conference game before heading to the Conference Carolinas Tournament Thursday April 23. Pfeiffer is scheduled to play in the opening game of the tournament at 11 a.m. against the No. 4 seed King.
