MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's basketball team (13-14, 9-10 CC) held the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (9-19, 5-15) to just 29.5 percent shooting from the field as the Falcons cruised to a 72-61 victory in the home finale on Tuesday night. On senior night, senior De'Vonte Jenkins had a memorable performance, scoring 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting and grabbed eight boards.
Jos Calhoun led all players with 24 points as the sophomore point guard went 8-for-10 from the charity stripe and 2-for-3 from long range. Calhoun added four rebounds and four assists on the night as the Falcons closed out the home portion of the 2015-16 schedule.
The Falcons shot 50 percent from the floor on the night and had the lead as high as 27 late in the second half before Belmont Abbey chipped away at the end. The Crusaders lost the lead with just under 14 minutes left in the first half and never came back.
The Falcons held Belmont Abbey to just 2-for-13 from long range and the Crusaders only offense of the night was when they got to the free throw line. BAC went 23-for-28 from the line and scored only 38 of their points from the floor.
Ray Chen led the Crusaders with 19 points but went just 5-for-17 from the floor. Deion Lane finished with a double-double for the visitors, tallying 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Jenkins, who entered play as Conference Carolinas leading rebounder and boasted the second highest field goal percentage, improved his numbers tonight. With just one regular season game remaining, Jenkins' 7.1 boards per game is 0.2 higher than the second place player. Also, his 59.5 percent shooting is four percentage points behind the leader. Jenkins hasn't shot below 50 percent from the field since a Dec. 15 loss against Bluefield St. where he went 4-for-10.
Prior to the contest, Pfeiffer honored the contributions of its five seniors. Jenkins, Silvere Aluko, Rob Folk, Nigel Jackson and Justin Finch were all honored before tipoff.
The Falcons wrap up the regular season slate with a road trip to Southern Wesleyan on Friday night. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
