Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC- Ethan Greene picked up his first win of the season, as the Pfeiffer baseball team (4-10, 1-2 CC) took the series finale against Mount Olive (6-4, 2-1 CC) on Sunday afternoon 5-4. Greene pitched a complete game scattering 12 hits, stranding eight runners and striking out four batters.
Pfeiffer got off to a fast start pushing across three runs on four hits to start the contest. Dylan Goodman ignited the inning with a one out double down the left field line. Anthony Allende singled to the left scoring Goodman from second base and advancing Jordan Eckard to third. Cody McKenzie drove in Zach Scudder who singled earlier in the inning with a fielder's choice. Allende crossed the plate, advancing on a throwing error by the shortstop.
The Falcons tacked on two more runs in the top of the second inning. Brandall Peters doubled down the left field line, scoring Ryne Stanley from second base, Stanley reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. Allende drove in his second run of the game scoring Derek Perry who reached on a single through the left side.
Mount Olive cut into the lead scoring one run on two hits in the bottom of the second frame. Mount Olive added one more run in the third inning to cut the Falcon lead to 5-2. The Trojans scored two more runs in the bottom of the ninth and put the tying runner on second base and the go-ahead runner on first base. Greene stranded the runners forcing a ground out to the third base to end the game.
Perry posted two hits, and Allende went 2-for-2 driving in two run, scoring one while drawing two walks for the Falcons.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Tuesday, March 1 for a double-header at St. Augustine's. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
