BELMONT, NC- On Friday night the Pfeiffer baseball team (7-15, 2-5 CC) dropped the series opener to No. 13 Belmont Abbey (18-3-1, 10-0 CC) by a score of 10-3. Zach Scudder went 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI in the loss, for the Falcons.
Belmont Abbey struck first in the home half of the first inning, when Nick Nunziato hit a two out home run to put Pfeiffer in an early 1-0 hole. The Falcons answered back in the top of the fourth. Derek Perry led off the inning with a single and followed it up with a stolen base. With two outs Scudder laced an RBI double tying the contest at 1. Scudder later scored on an RBI single by Chaston Gordon giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead.
BAC scored one run in the bottom of the fourth inning followed by three more in the home half of the fifth inning, extending the lead to 5-2. In the top of the sixth inning Gordon recorded his second ribbie of the game scoring Scudder who double to right center earlier in the frame.
The Crusaders answered back scoring two in the sixth and three more in the seventh, to remain unbeaten in Conference Carolinas action.
Pfeiffer looks to get back on track tomorrow with a double header against Belmont Abbey. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
