Duncan Everett picked up his first win of the season, as the Pfeiffer baseball team (7-11, 2-2 CC) halted Erskine's (15-5, 3-1 CC) five game winning streak, and handed the Flying Fleet their first conference loss of the 2016 campaign. Everett pitched 8.1 innings striking out four batters and only walking one in the 11-6 victory on Friday night.
Pfeiffer struck first when Zach Scudder led off the frame crushing a 2-0 pitch over the left field fence for his second home run of the season. The Flying Fleet responded by scoring two runs on four hits in the top of the third inning, to take a 2-1 lead.
Pfeiffer took advantage of some sloppy defense by Erskine in the bottom of the third inning. Brandall Peters lead off the inning with a walk, followed by a single to centerfield by Derek Perry. Both Peters and Perry scored on a throwing error on the Flying Fleet third baseman on a sacrifice bunt by Ryne Stanley. Jordan Eckard scored Stanley from third on a groundout to the shortstop.
Pfeiffer scored two more runs in the fifth inning, as the first three Falcon batters reached base to start the inning. Peters hit an RBI single up the middle scoring Tanner Mathis from third. Perry followed that up with a perfectly executed suicide squeeze that scored Xavier Rodriguez who singled earlier in the frame.
The Falcons added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Peters and Perry hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Stanley drove in his first run of the game with another suicide squeeze that scored Peters from third. Cody McKenzie hit a two out RBI single to left field that scored Eckard. The Flying Fleet put up four runs in the bottom of the ninth. However, The Falcons ended the contest with a 5-4-3 double play.
Perry and Scudder each had two hits on the day, and Mathis and Anthony Allende each ripped doubles for the Falcons. Eckard drove in two runs and Peters scored two runs, recorded two hits and drew two walks on the evening.
Pfeiffer continues there three game series against Erskine tomorrow with a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
