GAFFNEY, SC- It was the tail of two games on Saturday afternoon, as the Pfeiffer baseball team (12-23, 5-12 CC) split with Limestone (14-24, 5-12 CC). The Falcons gave up 19 runs in the first game falling 19-7. In game two Ethan Greene picked up his fourth win of the season, pitching a complete game giving up three earned and striking out five in a 7-5 victory.
The Saints scored 19 runs on 20 hits in the first game. Limestone struck first scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the fourth inning the Falcons responded when Anthony Allende and Tanner Mathis crushed back-to-back home runs cutting the lead to 3-2. Later in the inning Damon Smith smoked a RBI double to left field scoring Jordan Eckard who reached earlier in the inning on a fielding error by the shortstop. Limestone responded scoring three more runs in the bottom of the frame taking a 6-3 advantage.
With two outs in the bottom of the six inning Pfeiffer was able to score three more runs. With the bases loaded Derek Perry scored on a wild pitch, and Mathis followed that up smacking a 2 RBI double to left field scoring Zach Scudder and Cody McKenzie tying the contest 6-6.
Again the Saints responded this time by scoring seven runs in the sixth, five in the seventh and one in the eighth en route to a game one victory.
Pfeiffer opened up the night cap with the first three batters reaching base safely, both Perry and Smith hit singles, while Allende reached on a fielder's choice sac bunt. Scudder hit a two RBI single scoring both Smith and Perry. Limestone responded scoring one run in the home half of the first. Perry hit an RBI single in the top of the second scoring Ryne Stanley who reached on a fielding error by the shortstop. The Falcons tacked on another run in the third inning, before breaking the ball game open with a three run fourth.
The first three Falcons reached base safely in the top of the fourth. Eckard laced a double down the left field line scoring Scudder, and scored on an RBI single by McKenzie, extending the lead to 7-1. The Saints pushed across two more runs in the bottom of the frame.
Greene pitched the remaining three innings scoreless as the Falcons halted a six game losing streak.
Pfeiffer and Limestone will compete the three-game series tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
