Greene Ties Historic Record Wtih 26th Career Win in Final Home Start

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MISENHEIMER, NC- Ethan Greene tied a 44 year old school record for wins in a career, as the Pfeiffer baseball team (20-28, 12-14 CC) spilt a double header with Barton (29-18, 14-12 CC) on Saturday afternoon. Pitching in his final regular season start, the senior gave up six hits and two runs while striking out eight batters and surrendering just one walk. Greene, who is 26-12 on his career, ties the record that was set by Randy Benson in 1972.

"It's crazy that my name is next to a Pfeiffer legend like Randy Benson," said Greene following the outing. "I couldn't have done it without the guys behind me. It was a great way to go out with a win in my last home game. It's just unreal."

Staked to an early 4-0 lead, Greene cruised through the first four innings, only allowing three base runners. The Todd, N.C. native ran into trouble in the fifth as Barton tagged him for two runs to cut the lead to 4-2. However, the ace buckled down and retired the final seven batters in a row to earn the historic victory. In fact, Greene struck out four of the final seven batters he faced as Pfeiffer came away with an 8-2 win.

"It's great to see someone who has worked as hard on the field as Ethan achieve this accomplishment," said Head Coach Dusty Blake. "He has put himself in the same conversation with some of the all-time greats in our program's rich history."

Zach Scudder was the offensive MVP in the game two victory, going 2-for-2 with two runs and four RBI. Scudder had a double and hit his eighth homerun of the year, a blast to right center. Anthony Allende went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Derek Perry went 2-for-4 and also crossed the plate twice.

Game one was a pitches duel as both teams were held scoreless until the sixth inning. The Bulldogs struck first in the top of the sixth when Gatlin Pate hit a two-out two-run RBI double giving Barton a 2-0 advantage. Tanner Mathis leadoff the bottom of the seventh inning with a double to dead center field, and later scored on a Kirby Lambert single.

Barton answered in the top of the eighth as Andrew Webster smacked his 10th home run of the season extending the Barton lead to 3-1. In the bottom of the ninth, Mathis hit a one out single up the middle. The Falcons cut the Bulldog lead back to one when pinch runner Brandall Peters stole third base and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. However, Pfeiffer stranded the tying run 90 feet away.

Perry went 5-for-8 on the day scoring two runs and driving in one. In game two, Pfeiffer's first four batters went a combined 8-for-13 with six RBI's and two extra base hits.

The Falcons will wrap up the regular season hosting Barton tomorrow for senior day. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the Falcons honoring their seniors prior to the start of the game.
