MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer baseball team (20-29, 12-15 CC) dropped their regular season finale to Barton (30-18, 15-12) by a final score of 6-0 on Sunday afternoon. Prior to the contest, Pfeiffer recognized its eight seniors as part of Senior Day festivities.
Barton's Ben Williams hit two home runs and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs who enter the upcoming Conference Carolinas Tournament as the No. 5 seed. Kerry Walker kept the Falcons off balance all day as the righty tossed seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out two. Walker was efficient on the day as he needed just 71 pitches to get through his seven frames.
Anthony Allende suffered the loss for Pfeiffer as the senior went four innings and allowed four earned runs. Pfeiffer used eight pitchers in the contest as coach Dusty Blake made sure to get each of his senior pitchers into the contest.
Pfeiffer would total seven hits on the afternoon and two went for extra bases. Allende and Jordan Eckard each had two hits and Damon Smith and Ryne Stanley connected for the only doubles.
The Falcons will now turn their attention to the Conference Tournament as Pfeiffer enters as the No. 6 seed and will face Erskine in their first game. Last season, Pfeiffer knocked off Erskine in the Conference Tournament with a dramatic 8-7 come-from-behind victory. The Falcons scored four runs in the top of the 9th and held on to top the Flying Fleet. This season, Pfeiffer and Erskine met at Joe Ferebee Field and played in a game that went 14 innings. Erskine came away with a 3-2 victory and took two-out-of-three in the series.
