WILSON, NC – The Pfeiffer Falcons (6-13, 4-11 CC ) were unable to overcome a seven point deficit at halftime as they fell to Barton (12-9, 9-6), 81-74 on Wednesday night. Four of the five Pfeiffer starters scored in double figures with Meg Pritchard leading the way with a team-high 19 points on 8-for-17 from the field.
Pfeiffer held a 15-13 lead after one quarter of play as Sydni Bickford scored a team-high five points in the period, but Barton was able to rally with a 7-0 run to end the quarter.
The Falcons started off the second quarter hot, scoring the first five points to jump out to a 20-13 lead with 8:18 left. However, the Bulldogs outscored the Falcons the rest of the way by a tally of 27-13.
Pritchard came out in the third quarter to score a period-high nine points as she shot 4-for-5 from the field and 1-for-1 from three. The senior guard scored five of her team's seven points in one stretch that saw Pfeiffer regain the lead for a short a few moments, 47-46. Barton was able to rebound and outscore the Falcons in the quarter, 23-22.
Sophomore guard Sydni Bickford came out to start the fourth as she knocked down a three to cut the score to 63-58. After two made baskets by the Bulldogs' Karimah Dean and Kianna Wynn, Pritchard answered with her second three of the game.
After struggling in the first half with just three points, Dajea Scott scored back–to-back baskets with 3:39 left in the game to cut the Barton lead to 73-67. Pfeiffer Head Coach Tooey Loy called timeout but Wynn scored a basket out of the timeout. On the other end of the floor, Bickford knocked down another big three.
Dajea Scott scored the last basket with over a minute remaining to cut the lead to three, 77-74, but the Falcons were unable to score again.
Scott finished with 10 of her 13 points in the second half as she shot 6-for-12 from the field. Bickford ended with 16 points as she was 5-of-8 from the field and 4-for-7 from downtown. Ariana Tillman also scored in double figures with 11.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday, February 4th at 2 p.m. at Erskine.
