Falcons Lose Game One In Weekend Series At Barry

Box Score

MIAMI SHORES, FL – In the first game of a three game series with Barry University (2-3), the Pfeiffer Falcons (0-3) fell to the Buccaneers 4-3.  Senior second baseman John Elwood extended his hitting streak to three to start the season as he singled and added two RBI.

The Falcons and the Buccaneer played scoreless baseball through the first three innings until the bottom of the fourth as Pfeiffer starter Nick Richmond retired the first two batters of the inning but then Claudio Rubiera doubled to left center. The next batter, Alfredi Ramos doubled to right field to score Rubiera, but was gunned down at third base trying to stretch it into a triple.

The Bucs added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Richmond walked Andrew Rapoza who stole second base to get himself into scoring position. Richmond got the next batter but Rapoza advanced to third on the out. Barry's Alexis Monge-Rodriguez  got hit by a pitch and then on the next sequence of pitches he attempted to steal but was caught in a run down to score Rapoza.

Pfeiffer got their first run of the game in the top of the sixth inning as catcher Derek Perry walked and stole second base and then advanced to third on the single from first baseman Tanner Mathis. Zack Scudder grounded into a double play to score Perry to make the score, 2-1.

Pfeiffer took the lead in the top of seventh when Elwood added his two run double to score Brandall Peters and Xavier Rodriguez.

In bottom of the eight Barry retook the lead with two runs as Monge-Rodriguez singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Juan Dayoub. Two batters later Ryan Baldwin came to the plate and doubled down the right field line. The Falcons Drew Wilson intentionally walked Rubiera then Ramos singled to right field to score Dayoub.
