Falcons Clinch First Conference Carolinas Title Since 2005 with 80-62 Victory over BAC

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's basketball team (25-3, 17-3 CC) captured a share of its first Conference Carolinas Regular Season Title with an 80-62 victory over Belmont Abbey (14-14, 10-10) in the regular season finale on Friday night. With the win, Pfeiffer locks up home court advantage and the number one seed in the upcoming Conference Tournament.

Despite a season-low 80 points, Pfeiffer shook off a cold first half to outlast the Crusaders. The Falcons were once again led by senior guard A.J. Clark who poured in a game-high 23 points on senior night and went 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

Fellow seniors Andrew Guerrero (15 points), Josh Calhoun (12 points) and Keith Jumper (10 points) all reached double figures in scoring on the evening. Jumper added eight rebounds and three steals and Guerrero led the way with four thefts.

Brendan Jones was strong off the bench, chipping in 11 points and six rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

Pfeiffer shot a season-low 37 percent from the field but their tremendous pressure defense forced Belmont Abbey out of their rhythm. The Crusaders turned the ball over 26 times on the night and Pfeiffer was able to turn those 26 turnovers into 25 points. Offensively, the Falcons committed just 11 giveaways on the evening.

Pfeiffer shot a frigid 27.8 percent in the opening 20 minutes and held a slim 31-26 advantage going into the break. The Falcons were able to heat up in the second half and shot 45.9 percent in the final 20 minutes and buried eight second half 3-pointers.

The win pushes Pfeiffer's win streak to 13 in a row and the Falcons finish the regular season with a perfect 14-0 home record. The Falcons earned a share of the regular season title with Limestone as both finished 17-3 in conference but hold the tiebreaker thanks to the Falcons sweep of Barton.

On Tuesday night, Pfeiffer will host the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament and will take on Erskine. Game time is TBD and with a win, Pfeiffer would host the Semifinal and Championship round of the league tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
