Pfeiffer Drops 72-59 Home Contest to Barton

Box Score

Tyler Waddell - Sports Information Graduate Assistant

MISENHEIMER, NC – Despite a strong first-half effort, the Pfeiffer women's basketball team (7-14, 5-12 Conference Carolinas) was unable to keep the pace with Barton (14-9, 11-6) on Tuesday evening, falling 73-59 in Merner Gymnasium.

Thanks to a lopsided margin that saw Pfeiffer force 12 turnovers, the Falcons were able to secure a 29-27 lead after the first two quarters of action even though they were held to just 10-of-35 (28.6 percent) from the field.

But the lights turned on for Barton's offense in the second half, where Dinah Neal, Kianna Wynn, and Karimah Dean combined to produce 36 points to propel the Bulldogs, who used a 15-6 run to open the third quarter to ultimately outscore Pfeiffer 46-30 in the final 20 minutes.

Wynn, who leads the team with 18.4 points per game this season, finished with a game-high 18 as four Barton players ended the night in double figures.

Pfeiffer was led by senior Meg Prichard, who finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Bethany Sarson contributed 13 points, her highest total since scoring 11 on Jan. 6, and junior Dajea Scott added 10. Senior Lauren Janka manufactured six rebounds and three blocks.

For Prichard, it was her 11th consecutive game with a double-digit point total and her 21st overall in 2016-17.

Barton, which increased its winning streak to four with the win, shot an even 26-of-52 (50 percent) from the field and outrebounded Pfeiffer, 44-33.

Pfeiffer dominated in the turnover category, forcing 17 on the night to its six and turned these Bulldog miscues into 21 points on the other end. However, struggles from the field prevented the Falcons to match Barton's fast-pace style of play, as they were held to just 31.3 percent shooting and hit 5-of-22 from beyond the arc.

The Falcons will look to bounce back on Saturday, Feb. 11 against Converse on their home court.
