Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Quentin M. Reed - Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

MISENHEIMER, N. C. – The Pfeiffer Falcons (11-15, 4-8 CC) dropped both games in Saturday's doubleheader to the No. 5 Mount Olive Trojans (23-5, 12-0 CC). Even though it's not reflected in statistics  Falcon game one starter Jordan Toney pitched a strong game as he went nine innings, as he gave up five runs as he struck out ten batters.

Trojan designated hitter, Zach Mozingo walked with one out in the top of the second and then advanced to second on a Toney wild pitch. Next batter Jose Lopez doubled in Mozingo for a run batted in.

The Falcons answered the Mount Olive run as Christian Marciano and Xavier Rodriguez hit back-to-back singles. Second baseman Ira Dorin followed up with another single up middle to bring around Mariciano to score.

In the top of the third Trae Sweeting homered off Toney as Mount Olive retook the lead, 2-1.

Toney and Trojan starter followed with zeros on the scoreboard in the next three innings.

The Falcons tied it up in the bottom of the seventh and send it into extra innings when Marciano led off with a single. Pinch runner, Damon Smith moved to third base on a ground out Andrew Toney. Smith then scored on an RBI single from Derek Perry.

After a 120 plus pitch effort, Toney gave up a three homer to Mount Olive leading hitter Ricky Surrum.

The Trojans went on to win as Mozingo came in for his sixth save of the season.

In game two, Pfeiffer jumped out to a two run lead when Tanner Mathis knocked in Eckard with a homerun to left field.

Falcon starter Brodrick Rierson was unable to make it through two full innings as he gave up three runs and could not make it out of the inning. The Trojan added on 17 runs in the final six innings.

Mathis cut it to a 13-8 score after six innings with second homer of the game while adding three RBI on the big fly.

The Falcons added two more in the bottom of the seventh as pinch hitters Hunter Griffin and Andrew Toney led off the inning with back-to-back hits. Pinch hitter Gauge Gantt and grounded out that brought in Griffin and then Toney scored on a wild pitch but the seven run lead that remained was insurmountable.

Pfeiffer returns to action as travel they to Newberry for a non-conference match up on Wednesday with first pitch at 6 p.m.
