Back-to Back Homers Help Propel Pfeiffer To Victory Over Belmont Abbey

Box Score

Quentin M. Reed – Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

MISENHEIMER, N. C. – Back-to-back homers from Jordan Eckard and Zach Scudder in the bottom of the seventh inning helped propel the Pfeiffer Falcons (13-15, 5-8 CC) to a 10-7 victory over the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (18-13, 10-6 CC) on Friday night at Joe Ferebee Field.

The Falcons fell behind 4-0 after an inning and half. In the top of the second, the biggest blow occurred with two outs as Matt McGarry reached on a fielding error by Cody McKenzie as Kennan Stanley and Josh Genthe scored.

In the bottom half of the second, Pfeiffer was able to score three, highlighted by a Xavier Rodriguez double down the right field line off to score Derek Perry.

Eckard was able to get the bottom of the third started with single to center . He then was able to steal second base to get into scoring position which allowed Kirby Lambert to knock him in with a single of his own.

Jordan Toney put zeros on the scoreboard for the next three innings but in the top of the sixth, Crusader lead-off hitter Luke Cureton doubled to right center and scored on an RBI single to tie the score at four.

In the bottom of the seventh, after Eckard and Scudder homeruns,  Lambert , Perry and Rodriguez kept the rally going. Lambert  was able to score the third run of the inning as he scored on a wild pitch and  John Elwood drew a bases loaded walk to score Perry.

The Falcons added two more in the top of the eighth and reliever Cameron Reid picked up his third save of the season by striking out four in his two innings of work.

Rodriguez and Perry led all Falcon hitters with three hits apiece.  Rodriguez had a team-high two RBI and Perry had two doubles.

Toney was able to pick up his third win of the season as he tossed seven innings, allowing  four earned runs.

The Falcons return to action Saturday afternoon, starting at 2 p.m. with the first game of a doubleheader against Belmont Abbey.
