Crusaders Sweep Falcons In Saturday Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Quentin M. Reed- Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

MISENHEIMER, NC- After a Friday night come from behind victory, Pfeiffer  (13-17, 5-10 CC) was unable to use any of their comeback magic on Saturday versus Belmont Abbey (20-13, 12-6 CC) as the Crusaders swept the Falcons in both games of their doubleheader at Joe Ferebee Field.

In game one,  Falcon start Drew Wilson threw zeros at the Crusaders through three innings until the top of the fourth as Matt McGarry led off the inning with a double to centerfield.  Next batter, Colin Rosenbaum hit the ball to right side and was able to move over McGarry to third base.  Nick Nunziato then flied out to center field for a sacrifice fly and the 1-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth Belmont Abbey connected for back-to-back homers off Wilson from Luke Cureton and Kevin Elefante. Cureton's homer plated three as the Crusaders picked up four in the inning.

Pfeiffer was able to pick up three in the bottom half of the sixth as Jordan Eckard led off with a single down the left field line, Zach Scudder singled to right and then Tanner Mathis walked. Next batter, Derek Perry walked with the bases loaded to score Eckard. Two batters later, Xavier Rodriguez hit a sacrifice to centerfield to bring one more Falcon run and then Kirby Lambert cleared the bases with a triple to score two more runners.

Belmont Abbey picked up another run in the top of the seventh to seal the game one win with a Kayden Krause home run.

In the second game, Abbey starter Blake Waldren pitched four scoreless as hit offense was able to pick up eight runs in the top of the fifth and 12 more in the top of the sixth.

The Falcons were able to put up a nine spot in the bottom of the sixth, as Andrew Toney doubled in John Elwood.  The next batter, Perry singled in two more runs.  With bases loaded later in the inning,  Cody McKenzie hit a grand slam and then Hunter Griffin nailed another homer to score two more Falcon runs.

Belmont Abbey was able to hold onto to the victory as they picked up their 20th win of the season in game two as they were able to win 24-10.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Tuesday in non-conference action as they travel  to Lenoir-Rhyne with first pitch starting at 6 p.m.
