Men's Basketball Sees Home Winning Streak Come to End

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- For the first time since Feb. 17, 2016, the Pfeiffer men's basketball team (13-3) dropped a regular season home game, falling 109-105 to Greensboro (6-11) on Sunday afternoon. The regular season win streak at Merner Gym had been 23 in a row prior to this afternoon's defeat.

The upset-minded Pride erased a 24-point halftime deficit to hand the Falcons a shocking loss. Greensboro outscored the Falcons 65-37 in the final 20 minutes to steal the victory.

Jevon Patton led the Falcons with 25 points, while Josh Calhoun added 24. Calhoun was scorching-hot early, scoring 17 of Pfeiffer's first 30 points. One day after setting a career-high in points, Craig Sabb topped that total with a career-best 17 points, the same number scored by Josiah Avington and Brendan Jones.

It was a tail of two halves for the Falcons. Pfeiffer stormed out of the gate and went into the break with a 68-44 advantage. The Black and Gold shot 22-of-34 (64.7 percent) in the opening frame and hit an incredible 14 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes.

However, the second half saw the Falcons go ice cold. Pfeiffer shot just 30.6 percent from the floor and went 3-of-23 (13 percent) from beyond the arc. The Falcons also committed 15 turnovers in the half.

To start the second half, Greensboro went on a 15-0 run to close the gap and held Pfeiffer scoreless for five minutes. Following Pfeiffer's first basket of the half, Greensboro would come back with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 70-67. Jones' 3-pointer at the 10:42 mark put the Falcons up 76-73 and was just their eighth point in a 9:18 stretch.

The Pride would even the game a couple of times but didn't take the lead until Daron Gibson's 3-point play put the visitors up 107-105 with 13 seconds to play. Greensboro ended the game by scoring 10 unanswered points.

Gibson scored 23 points off the bench for Greensboro and Cornelius Johnson had a team-high 25.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday when they travel to William Peace for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
