Danville, VA -- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (13-3) lost a tight contest on the road 88-81 at Averett (13-7) Sunday afternoon. Leading the Falcons was junior guard Sydni Bickford. Bickford, who was coming off of a career high 29 point performance on Saturday at Greensboro, scored 25 on the game while shooting 5-11 from behind the arc.

Senior Kayla Whitworth came through with a double-double for Pfeiffer off the bench, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 boards. Senior point guard Dajea Scott put up 13 points on the afternoon, including dishing out 5 assists. Brina Bentley also scored in double figures with 10 points.

A big second quarter helped Averett extend their lead to 9 at the half, as they outscored the Falcons 24-14. Despite Pfeiffer outscoring the Cougars by 2 points in the second half, it wasn't enough to overcome that halftime deficit.

Averett outrebounded the Falcons 43-34 for the game, and shot 53 percent from the floor, compared to the Falcons shooting just 41 percent. One bright spot for Pfeiffer was forcing Averett in to 22 turnovers. 24 of the Falcons' 81 points came off those turnovers. Pfeiffer's bench also outscored the Cougars' bench 25-13 on the game.

Samm Chandler and Brooke Carthon came up big for the Cougars, as they each scored over 20 points. Chandler scored 22 on the contest, including 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Carthon came in right behind her fellow teammate with 21 points, while falling one rebound shy of a double-double.

Up next for the Falcons is a Wednesday night showdown inside Merner Gym as they play host to Salem College. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00.
