Pfeiffer Sweeps Brevard In Double Header for 20th Win Of The Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Brevard, N.C. -- It was another successful day on the diamond for the Pfeiffer baseball team (20-7) as they took care of Brevard (6-19) with a double-header sweep to earn their seventh and eighth wins in a row.

Game One: Pfeiffer 6 Brevard 2

While Friday afternoon's game saw both teams combine for 28 runs, it was a much better pitching performance by both teams in game one. The Tornadoes got on the board first with an Eddie Mattocks RBI base knock. The Falcons would then tie the game at one a piece with a Kirby Lambert single that drove in Brian Kowalski in the third inning.

Pfeiffer would take their first lead of the contest in the fifth on a Jordan Eckard RBI single to left field to make the score 2-1. With the score tied at 2 in the seventh, the Falcons would take the lead again and not look back. A Xavier Rodriguez single would give Pfeiffer a 3-2 advantage, and then Eckard would come through once again, this time with an RBI double to extend the lead to 4-2.

In the eighth, a Derek Perry 2 RBI double would put the Falcons ahead 6-2, and that's the way things would end. Perry collected 2 hits for the game along with his 2 RBI double. Brian Kowalski went 2-4 on the day with 2 runs scored.

Pfeiffer got another strong performance by starter Will Altemueller, who pitched 6.1 innings while giving up 5 hits, 2 runs, and striking out 4. Cameron Reid would come in for the final 2.2 innings to earn the save.

Game Two: Pfeiffer 6 Brevard 1

Game two wasn't much different for the Brevard offense, as they could only muster up 1 run. Matthew Lambert got the start on the mound for Pfeiffer. Lambert pitched a solid 5 innings and gave up just 3 hits and struck out 2.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, started by a Jordan Eckard 2 run homer to left field. Chaston Gordon would come up a few batters later and rip an RBI double down the right field line that scored Kirby Lambert.

Pfeiffer would tack on to their lead in the third as Christian Marciano scored on a passed ball that made the score 4-0. In the sixth, Eckard would continue his monster day with another RBI single that drove home Derek Perry to extend the lead to 5-0. The Falcons would add one more run in the seventh when Chaston Gordon doubled to center field that scored Marciano.

Marciano would have a strong day at the plate, going 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Derek Perry also came through with 2 hits on the afternoon.

Pfeiffer will hit the field again next weekend at home as they take on N.C. Wesleyan for a three game series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
