Falcons Take Two Over Brevard On Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Misenheimer, N.C. -- It was senior day in the Village as the Pfeiffer baseball team (25-7) hosted Brevard (6-26) at Joe Ferebee Field for a double header that would see the Falcons come away victorious in both games. Game one saw Pfeiffer scratch out just enough runs for a 3-2 win, while game two saw them demolish the Tornadoes pitching staff for 15 runs in a rout.

Game One: Pfeiffer 3 Brevard 2

Game one was a pitchers' duel with Nick Richmond on the mound for the Falcons, while Brevard's ace Tyler Timms took the hill for the Tornadoes. Richmond was the story for Pfeiffer as he went 8 innings while giving up just 5 hits and striking out 9. With the win, Richmond's record goes improves to 6-2 on the year. Meanwhile, Timms pitched an outstanding game himself going up against the vaunted Pfeiffer lineup. Timms also went 8 innings and gave up 9 hits while striking out 5.

Brevard got out to an early 1-0 lead off a Donny Carsillo RBI single in the 1st. In the 3rd, the Falcons took a 2-1 lead when Jordan Eckard drove in a run with an RBI double followed by a Kirby Lambert RBI double. In the top of the 5th, the Tornadoes would come back to tie the game after miscommunication by the Pfeiffer defense led to a double steal in which Eddie Mattocks took home after a failed attempt to pick off Carsillo at first base.

The game winner would come from Christian Marciano, who celebrated senior day with an RBI single in the 7th to drive home fellow senior Derek Perry to take a 3-2 lead. Freshman Peyton Williams would come in to close the game out in the 9th to nail down his 6th save of the season.

For the Falcons, Derek Perry was solid at the plate, going 2-4 with 2 runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Eckard also came through with a 2-3 day at the dish.

Game Two: Pfeiffer 15 Brevard 1

Game two would be the complete opposite of game one, as the Falcons scored early and often to rout the Tornadoes 15-1. Pfeiffer would score 8 runs in the first 3 innings of the contest. The scoring started with Christian Marciano driving in a run on an RBI single that scored Xavier Rodriguez and Jordan Eckard. Catcher Chaston Gordon continued his hot hitting with an RBI single to center field to make the score 3-0.

In the 3rd, Marciano would keep his great day going with a three run blast to left field to make the score 7-1. Pfeiffer wouldn't let up with the bats, as they would score 4 runs in the frame. Marciano would come through again in the 4th with a 2 RBI single to tack on to the lead. For the game, Marciano went 4-5 with 8 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

Xavier Rodriguez also had a solid day at the plate going 3-4 with 3 runs scored and a walk. Jordan Eckard came through with a 2-3 game, scoring 4 times and driving in 1 run. Shortstop Bryan Kowalski added to his homerun total with a solo shot in the 2nd inning for his 5th homer of the year.

Matthew Lambert got the start on the bump for the Falcons. Lambert went 5 innings and struck out 4 to pick up his 4th win of the season. Brodrick Rierson and Alex Morgan closed the final two innings out to seal the win.

Pfeiffer will hit the field again tomorrow afternoon as they finish their three game series with Brevard. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
