Win Streak Reaches Fourteen As Falcons Down Brevard 13-1

Box Score

Misenheimer, N.C. -- Make it 14 straight wins for the Pfeiffer baseball team (26-7) as they took down Brevard (6-27) 13-1 on Sunday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field. The win improves the Falcons' home record to 16-1 and 6-0 against the Tornadoes this season.

The Pfeiffer bats got going early once again as Jordan Eckard, who passed the 200 career hit mark this weekend, drove in a run with an RBI double to put the Falcons ahead 1-0 after the first inning. Pfeiffer would score two more times in the second inning on a Bryan Kowalski single and a Derek Perry sac fly to make the score 3-0.

The third inning saw the Falcons score three times, as a bases loaded hit by pitch of Chaston Gordon started the scoring, and then Mason Striplin and Damon Smith each drove in a run to push the lead to 6-1. The offense would tack on two more runs in each of the next two innings to put the game out of reach. The final run came on an RBI single off the bat of pinch hitter Kyler Fairchild to end the game after seven innings.

On the mound for Pfeiffer was left hander Will Altemueller. Altemueller pitched 5.1 innings while giving up 12 hits but just 1 run. After the Tornadoes had the bases loaded and no outs twice, Altemueller wiggled out of trouble and didn't allow a run in either jam. He also struck out 5 Brevard batters on the afternoon. With the win, Altemueller's record goes to 7-2 on the year. Cameron Reid also pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings, raising his scoreless streak to 21.2 innings.

Xavier Rodriguez and Jordan Eckard would lead the offense, as they both collected 3 hits. Rodriguez would collect 2 RBI's, while Eckard came through with 4 of his own including his 9th homer of the season. Mason Striplin also had a 3 hit afternoon that saw him collect 1 RBI. For the game, the Falcons collected 17 hits and struck out just 3 times.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the Tornadoes, as they left 9 men on base. Brevard had the bases loaded and no outs twice, along with a first and third with no outs situation, and failed to score all three times. They did collect 12 hits on the contest, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the Falcons on Sunday afternoon.

Pfeiffer will hit the field again on Wednesday night as they take on St. Andrews. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
