Pfeiffer Men's Basketball Outlasts N.C. Wesleyan, 99-92

Rocky Mount, N.C. (Jan. 11, 2020) – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team put together a late run to push past North Carolina Wesleyan 99-92 on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (7-6, 2-3 USA South) found themselves down 90-86 with less than three minutes to play, but a decisive 13-2 run helped the Falcons snap a two-game skid.

Pfeiffer's Sean Scott (Waldorf, Md.) connected on a layup while being fouled at the 2:51 mark. His free throw cut the Bishop lead to 90-89.  After a NCWC miss, junior Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) drew a foul and tied the game at 90-90 after a free throw.

N.C. Wesleyan jumped back ahead with 1:29 left on a Garrett Phillips basket, but Sabb would put Pfeiffer ahead 93-92 on a three pointer at 1:06.  Scott would then convert another layup while getting fouled.  After adding the free throw with 51 seconds left, Pfeiffer led 96-92.

N.C. Wesleyan then was forced to foul.  Gabe Miller (Norfolk, Va.) knocked down one and Jamaal David (Clinton, Md.) hit two to provide the eventual 99-92 final.

The Falcons had five players reach double-figures as Sabb notched a season-best 34 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.  David completed the game with 16 points and eight rebounds while Josiah Avington (Fredericksburg, Va.) had 12 points.  Tyjarek Simmons (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) had 11 while Scott finished with 10 points.

N.C. Wesleyan was led by Ricardo Bullock's 21 points.

Pfeiffer will return to Merner Gym this upcoming Wednesday, Jan. 15, taking on Greensboro College at 7:00 p.m.
