Box Score Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Falls to N.C. Wesleyan, 78-63
Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 12, 2020) – Visiting North Carolina Wesleyan College used a big first quarter and never trailed, as they downed Pfeiffer University 78-63 in USA South women's basketball play on Sunday afternoon at Merner Gym.
The Bishops (11-4, 6-1 USA South) and Falcons were evenly matched in the early stages of the game, with neither team able to maintain a significant lead. Pfeiffer's Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) knocked down a jumper to pull the Falcons to 15-14 with 3:32 left, but N.C. Wesleyan then went on a tear, jumping out to the 29-17 lead after the first quarter.
The Bishops increased their lead to 47-31 at halftime and gained their biggest lead of the game, 25 points (62-37) after a Kayla Johnson basket at 2:39.
The Falcons did trim the deficit to 14 points (68-54) midway through the fourth quarter, but that would be the closest they would get, as NCWC cruised the rest of the way in the 78-63 win.
Individually, Pfeiffer got 18 points from Bentley while Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) had 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) finished with 11 points and four assists.
N.C. Wesleyan got 28 points and eight rebounds from Kayla Johnson and 14 points and 11 rebounds from Kayrisma Harrison.
Pfeiffer will continue their home stand on Wednesday, Jan. 15 when they take on Salem College at 5:00 p.m. Following the women's game, the Pfeiffer men will take on Greensboro College at approximately 7:00 p.m.
