Pfeiffer Women Drops 75-54 Road Game at William Peace

Raleigh, N.C. (Jan. 4, 2020) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball opened up the 2020 portion of their schedule with a 75-54 loss at William Peace at the Hermann Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C.

The Falcons (5-6, 2-1 USA South) got a team-high 16 points from A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) while senior teammate Kortni Pinion (Stanfield, N.C.) had a game-best 13 rebounds to go along with seven points.  Pfeiffer also got 14 points from Shalonda Wilkins (Chesterfield, Va.).

William Peace, winners of their past five games, improve to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in USA South action.  The Pacers got 19 points and eight rebounds from Jaymesha Sanders.  Sanders was the only Pacer player to hit double-digit scoring.  Kiera Williams managed eight points and 11 rebounds while Mikayla Ray, Cierra Baker and Eva Holloway also scored eight points each.

WPU started the first quarter strong, going on a 6-0 run, but the Falcons responded by going on a 5-0 run to trim the deficit to 6-5 in the early stages.

After going back-and-forth for the remainder of the quarter, a layup from 0 would end the first quarter as WPU would lead 16-13.

After leading 35-25 at halftime, WPU came alive in the third quarter, going on a 17-4 run to extend their lead to 23 points (52-29) and would lead 56-39 at the end of the quarter.

Pfeiffer would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way, as WPU took the eventual 75-54 win.

The Falcons will look to rebound from the loss when they travel to Methodist on Wednesday, Jan. 8 for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Monarchs.
