Box Score Pfeiffer Men's Basketball Wins Home Game Over N.C. Wesleyan, 110-98
Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 1, 2020) – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team got 30 points from junior Tyjarek Simmons en route to a 110-98 win over visiting N.C. Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon at Merner Gym.
The Falcons and Bishops battled to a 40-40 stalemate over the first 16 minutes of the first half, but Pfeiffer surged ahead following a jumper from freshman Regin Larson (Charlotte, N.C.) and a three-pointer from Simmons.
After NCWC came within 48-47, Pfeiffer again made a run, this time pushing the lead to 52-47 at halftime.
In the second half, N.C. Wesleyan would draw to 56-54 at the 17:58 mark on a jumper from A.J. Frye, but Larson drilled a three-pointer for the 59-54 lead.
With neither team able to build a lead, throughout the first several minutes of the half, Pfeiffer would get some separation with three-pointer at 11:48 by Simmons that pushed Pfeiffer's lead to 79-69.
Pfeiffer's Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) knocked down a jumper at 8:43 to give Pfeiffer their largest lead of the game at 15 points (87-72).
NCWC would get no closer than six points the rest of the way, with Pfeiffer eventually taking the 110-98 conference win.
In addition to Simmons' 30 points, Pfeiffer got 22 from Taylan Rowe (Oakboro, N.C.), 21 from Sabb, 18 from Larson while Juwan Blanton (Forest City, N.C.) added 10. Sabb lead the Falcons on the boards, as he controlled nine on the afternoon.
N.C. Wesleyan got a game-high 43 points from A.J. Frye while Damon McDowell added 29.
The win boost the Falcon record to 11-8 overall and 6-5 in conference play while NCWC drops to 10-10 and 6-6 in league action.
Pfeiffer will next play on Tuesday, Feb. 4 when they travel to William Peace for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Pacers.
