How it Happened
Visiting Adrian plated three runs in the second inning to take the early lead. Following a leadoff walk, the Bulldogs got an RBI double from Tristin Richardson. Richardson would then race around to score in a single from Angel Gutierrez. Gutierrez would then score on a Sean O'Keefe to jump to the early lead.
Adrian would take the 3-0 lead into the sixth inning, but the Falcons trimmed the lead to 3-1 on a Bryce Marsh (Asheboro, N.C.) single that scored Zach Ferrell (Apex, N.C.) from second. Ferrell got the inning started with a double to left center and was able to advance to third following a sacrifice fly by Seth Grice (Stanfield, N.C.)
The Falcons tied the game up in the seventh. After a groundout, senior Ira Dorin (Lithia Springs, Ga.) laced a double down the left field line. Eli Blake (Norwood, N.C.) would draw a walk to place runners on first and second. Hayden McGraw (Conover, N.C.) then legged out a bunt single to load the bases.
A passed ball allowed Dorin to score, cutting the Bulldog lead to 3-2 and following a Bryan Kowalski (Kernersville, N.C.) walk that loaded the bases again, Ferrell reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Ferrell to score, tying the game at 3-3.
Pfeiffer would push across the eventual game-winning run in the eighth when catcher Jake Brown (Winston-Salem, N.C.) reached on an error and would advance to third after Kyler Fairchild (Taylorsville, N.C.) doubled to left field, putting runners on second and third with one out.
Blake Winebarger (Yadkinville, N.C.) ripped a single through the right side that drove in Brown, giving Pfeiffer the 4-3 lead.
Pfeiffer then sat the Bulldogs down in order in the ninth, with Josh Topper (Harrisburg, N.C.) striking out the final Bulldog batter to end the game.
Pfeiffer reliever Michael Glenn (Orlando, Fla.) earned the win for the Falcons, as he pitched three innings while allowing just one hit.
