Pfeiffer Women's Basketball Opens 2021-22 Season With Home Win Over Hollins
Misenheimer, N.C. (Nov. 7, 2021) –  The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season with a 76-67 home win over Hollins University on Saturday afternoon at Merner Gym.
The win marks the third-straight over Hollins and boosted the Falcon record in season-openers under head coach
Tooey Loy to 5-3 overall.
Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) led the way with 16 points as she went 4-of-13 from the field and hit one three-pointer. She was also 7-of-9 from the free throw line.
Freshman
Kenadie Hudler (Jefferson, N.C.) opened her collegiate career in the Black and Yellow by hitting five shots from long range, finishing with 15 points.
Seniors
Makalla Burnette (Burlington, N.C.) and
Mya Johnson (Roxboro, N.C.) just missed scoring in double-figures, as each finished with nine points. Burnette shot 3-of-5 from the field while Johnson was 2-of-4.
As a team, Pfeiffer hit 10 three-pointers and was 23-of-72 (31.9%) from the field. Pfeiffer also coerced Hollins into 26 turnovers, converting the miscues into 21 Falcon points. Also, 17 players saw action for Pfeiffer, with 13 players scoring and 12 players logging 10 minutes or more.
Visiting Hollins had three players score in double-figures, with Kayla Surles leading the way with 17 points. Unoma Aguolu and Jalaya Duarte scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Pfeiffer (1-0) will return to play on Tuesday, Nov. 9 when they travel to Division I Campbell University for an exhibition tilt with the Camels. Tipoff from Gore Arena at the Pope Convocation Center in Buies Creek is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
