Box Score Mary Baldwin Shoots Down Falcon Women's Basketball, 86-69
Staunton, Va. (Feb. 14, 2021) – Mary Baldwin University used a big first quarter and never trailed in handing the Pfeiffer University women's basketball an 86-69 setback in USA South play on Sunday afternoon.
Pfeiffer (2-3, 2-3 USA South) found themselves down 24-12 at the end of the first quarter and despite trimming the lead to seven points (34-27) late in the second half, MBU would take the 35-27 leading into halftime.
Pfeiffer would close to 40-35 at the 8:20 mark of the third quarter after a layup from Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.), but the Squirrels would get a pair of free throws from Jalen Gathers to extend the lead to 42-35 with 7:31 left in the quarter.
MBU would push their lead to 54-38 at 5:34 and held the Falcons off the rest of the way, taking the 86-69 win.
Bentley led the way for Pfeiffer, scoring 20 points and controlling seven rebounds. Shalonda Wilkins (Chesterfield, Va.) continued to play well in scoring 12 points. Mya Johnson (Roxboro, N.C.) had a productive afternoon, scoring nine points and securing a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.
The same two teams will face off again on Monday, Feb. 15 at 6:00 p.m. in Merner Gym.
