Pfeiffer Women Downed by Southern Virginia 75-53
Buena Vista, Va (January 31, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University women's basketball team fell to East Division leaders, Southern Virginia 75-53. The win was the 11
th straight for the Knights.

Mya Johnson led the way in scoring for the Falcons (8-13, 4-9 USA South) dropping 10 points. USA South Freshman of the Week,
Tanaeshea Ellison continued her hot play with 9 points and grabbed a team best 8 rebounds.
The Knights (15-3, 11-0 USA South) had another strong performance from Katie Garrish who scored a game high 17 points and gathered a game high 10 rebounds. Three other Knights joined Garrish in double figures. Anna Singer added 12 points off the bench while Emma Camden and Savanna Christensen added 11 and 10 respectively.
In the first quarter, Pfeiffer would jump out to a 9-8 lead with 6:06 left in the quarter. Southern Virginia would out score the Falcons 10-4 to finish the quarter with an 18-13 lead. Pfeiffer would find themselves down by 10 with 4:10 left in the half before closing on a 11-5 run after two free throws from
Alexis Bynum to trail by 4 points at the half. The Falcons would outscore the Knights 16-15 for the quarter.
Pfeiffer would start the third quarter on a 9-2 run to grab a 3-point lead, their largest of the game, with 6:13 remaining on the third quarter clock. Southern Virginia would end the quarter on an 8-2 run to take an 8 point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Knights defense would hold Pfeiffer to 8 points in the fourth quarter on 4-21 shooting to pull away and hold on for the win.
The Pfeiffer women will play their third game in four days as they stay on the road Tuesday night, February 1
st, for a USA South Conference matchup at Salem College in Winston Salem, N.C. The game is set to tip at 6:00 p.m.
