Pfeiffer Men Soar Past Greensboro in Overtime, 94-84
Misenheimer, N.C. (Feb. 12, 2022) – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team held visiting Greensboro College without a field goal in overtime en route to a 94-84 USA South home win at a raucous Merner Gym on Saturday night.
With time running down at the end of regulation, Pfeiffer senior
Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) was able to hit a jumper in the paint while surrounded by three Greensboro defenders to force overtime with the score tied at 81-81.
In the extra period and with the Falcon crowd, the largest of the season, on its feet, the Pfeiffer defensive effort held Greensboro to an 0-7 shooting effort from the floor in overtime, including an 0-5 stretch from three-point range. The only points for The Pride in overtime came from free throws.
Conversely, Pfeiffer was 4-of-10 from the field in overtime. The Falcons also shot an efficient 5-of-7 from the free throw line to seal the win.
Sabb lead six Falcons in double-figures by scoring 26 points, his season high. Sabb also controlled nine rebounds, had five assists, one block and one steal. Sophomore teammate
Dorian Miles (Greenville, S.C.) just missed a double-double, as he had nine rebounds to go along with 14 points.Â
D.J. Bradsher (Burlington, N.C.) did achieve a double-double with 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Seniors
Jerome Savoy (Waldorf, Md.),
Taylan Rowe (Oakboro, N.C.) and sophomore
E.J. Thomas (Charlotte, N.C.) ended with 13, 10 and 10 points, respectively in the win.
The win, Pfeiffer's fourth straight, improves the Falcons to 10-8 overall and 8-3 in USA South play while Greensboro slips to 4-8 in league play and 9-13 overall.
The Falcons will turn their attention to hosting East Division-leading Averett on Tuesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Merner Gym.
