Berry College Takes Three from Pfeiffer Baseball in Opening Series
Rome, Ga. (Feb. 20, 202s) – The Pfeiffer University baseball team opened their 2022 season at Berry College, dropping three games to the host Vikings in the season opening series.

Game 1 (Saturday)
Homestanding Berry College scattered seven hits and allowed just one run in downing Pfeiffer 4-1.Â
The Vikings scored an unearned run in the first inning and then added a pair of runs on a pair of RBI singles in the third inning, taking the 3-0 lead. Another RBI single in the seventh inning pushed the Berry lead to 4-0.
Pfeiffer plated a run in the Falcon ninth when
Jake Brown (Winston-Salem, N.C.) singled to right field, driving in senior
Bryce Marsh (Asheboro, N.C.). Pfeiffer would be unable to add any additional runs in falling 4-1.
Marsh, Brown and
Landon Evans (Statesville, N.C.) each went 2-of-4 from the plate.
Game 2 (Saturday)
Pfeiffer took the early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a
Zach Ferrell (Apex, N.C.) homer to center field, but Berry would tie the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning on an RBI single and would go ahead 2-1 on a Falcon throwing error. Berry would go on to score three runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to end the game at 11-1.
Game 3 (Sunday)
Pfeiffer jumped on top 2-0 in the Falcon first after Ferrell laced a double to right field that scored Marsh. Â Ferrell would race home on an Evans single for the second run of the inning.
Pfeiffer would make it 3-0 in the third after a
Carter Merrill (Dallas, N.C.) RBI single, but Berry exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 5-3. Another Berry score in the fourth stretched the lead to 6-3, but the Falcons were able to plate a run in the sixth after Evans scored again, this time on a deep foul out from
Alec Bell.
 Down 7-4 heading into the seventh, Pfeiffer took the 8-7 lead on a
Blake Winebarger (Yadkinville, N.C.) RBI single, followed by an RBI from Marsh. Evans would then single to right field, scoring Winebarger and
Austin Morton (Jacksonville, Fla.).
BC would tie the game in the seventh inning at 8-8 following a groundout and would score the winning run in walkoff fashion in the ninth inning on an RBI bunt.

Pfeiffer will open their home schedule at Joe Ferebee Field on March 2 with a nonconference game against ODAC opponent Roanoke College.
