N.C. Wesleyan Downs Pfeiffer in USA South Quarterfinals
Rocky Mount, N.C. (Feb. 22, 2022) – Third-seeded North Carolina Wesleyan lead wire-to-wire and handed Pfeiffer University an 81-69 defeat in the first round of the USA South Tournament on Tuesday night in Rocky Mount, N.C.
The Bishops used a 10-3 run to begin the game and never relinquished the lead the rest of the way. NCWC led by as many as 10 points (31-21) in the first half, but Pfeiffer outscored the Bishops 12-6 in the final 6:54 of the half to draw to 37-33 at halftime.

Jerome Savoy (Waldorf, Md.) opened the second half with a three-pointer to bring Pfeiffer to within one point at 37-36.
N.C. Wesleyan would build the lead to 68-55 after a Damon McDowell dunk with 8:36 remaining. Another dunk, this time from Kyron Kelly at 5:40 gave NCWC their largest lead of the game, 74-59.
The Falcons would narrow the lead to nine points on two separate occasions down the stretch, but N.C. Wesleyan would not let the Falcons any closer the rest of the way.
Pfeiffer got 12 points from Savoy, who finished going 5-of-19 from the field. Teammate
Elan Muniz (King, N.C.) had 12 points off the bench as the only other Falcon player in double-figures. Muniz knocked down a team-best four three-pointers on the night.

The win sends N.C. Wesleyan into the USA South semifinals where they will take on top-seeded Covenant College on Friday, Feb. 25.
With the loss, Pfeiffer concludes the season at 12-11 overall.
