Monarchs Ground Pfeiffer Women's Basketball, 65-55
Misenheimer, N.C. (Jan. 10, 2023) – Visiting Methodist University took control in the second quarter, outscoring Pfeiffer 24-9 on their way to a 65-55 USA South women's basketball win over Pfeiffer University on Tuesday night in Merner Gym.
With Pfeiffer leading 13-11 after the first quarter, the Monarchs started the second quarter on a 7-3 run to take the 20-14 lead. Methodist would go on to build the lead to as many as nine points (26-17) before the Falcons put together a 5-0 spurt of their own to close to 26-22 following a pair of
Alexis Bynum (Charlotte, N.C.) free throws 2:42 before halftime.
Methodist would then score the final nine points of the quarter to take the 35-22 lead to halftime.
Methodist would build their largest lead of the game (41-22) by scoring the first six points of the third quarter. Pfeiffer would steadily chip away at the Monarch lead, closing to 51-42 by the end of the third.
Pfeiffer would then close to 51-44 in the opening stages of the fourth quarter, but Methodist rebuilt the lead to as many as 16 points and would allow Pfeiffer to come no closer than 10 points down to the stretch in taking the 65-55 road win.

Tanaesha Ellison (Asheboro, N.C.) notched a career-high 26 points and nine rebounds against the Monarchs.Â
Alexis Bynum (Charlotte, N.C.) hit a pair of three-pointers while
Kenadie Hudler (Jefferson, N.C.) hit three from long range, as both finished with nine points.
Methodist had three players in double-figures, led by Jillian Peterson's 16 points. Teammate Kiley Hicks had 14 points and 14 rebounds while Aniyah Tate had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Pfeiffer (2-10, 0-6 USA South) will return to play on Friday, Jan. 13 in their third-straight home game, taking on Southern Virginia at 7:30 p.m. The game is part of a doubleheader with the Pfeiffer men's team, which will play at 5:00 p.m. against Mary Baldwin.
