Pfeiffer Women Falls 67-43 at JWU

Charlotte, N.C. (Nov. 28, 2023), --The Pfeiffer women's basketball team got a 29-point performance from the bench, but fell 67-43 to the JWU Wildcats on the road on Tuesday evening.

Sophomore Hannah Isley led the Falcons (2-2) with six points and four assists. Fellow sophomore Miya Horton also added 10 points and two steals from the bench while freshman Paris Bennett helped out with seven points, also offthe bench.

Pfeiffer pulled down 39 rebounds in Tuesday's game and was led by Isley's five boards. The Falcons also put in work on the offensive glass, turning 13 rebounds into 10 second chance points.

The Pfeiffer defense was effective at taking away the basketball, forcing 21 JWU Charlotte turnovers. Those takeaways turned into eight points on the other end of the floor. Horton's two steals led the way individually for the Falcons.

How It Happened

Pfeiffer struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-8 at the end of the first quarter.

The Falcons continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 45-17 halftime deficit.

JWU Charlotte continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 53-17 advantage before Pfeiffer went on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Horton, to trim its deficit to 53-25 with 2:02 to go in the third. JWU Charlotte countered and stretched its lead to 58-25 heading into the fourth. Pfeiffer played well near the basket, scoring six of its eight points in the paint.

Pfeiffer narrowed its deficit to 67-36 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Horton's layup, to shrink the deficit to 67-43 with 44 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Pfeiffer took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 18 points in the paint.
