The Basics
Pfeiffer came out of the gates hot, as they manufactured a 1-0 lead in the first inning off of a
Zach Ferrell groundout that scored
Cory Lackey. Lackey led off the inning with a double to left-center field.
The Falcons added to their lead in the second inning when
Thomas Ashby belted a two-run homer to left field, putting Pfeiffer up 3-0.
Lynchburg scored single runs in the third and fourth inning to trim the Falcon lead to 3-2. The Hornets would then used a seven-run fifth inning to bolt ahead of Pfeiffer, 9-3.
Lackey ripped his second double of the game to start the fifth and teammate
Jake Brown would ground out to shortstop, allowing Lackey to score from third base to make it 9-4.
Lynchburg got five more in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 14-4. Pfeiffer's
Christian Ezzell would hit a grand slam in the sixth to make it 14-8. The Hornets would then add another three runs in the seventh to go up 17-8.
Pfeiffer responded again, this time with a Lackey two-RBI single followed by an RBI double from Ferrell to make it 17-11. Â Â Ashby then provided an RBI double in the eighth to bring the score to 17-12.
The Falcons would not be able to produce any ninth inning heroics, falling by a 17-12 final.
